Who are Nig & Nom from Sunny Travel Explorers?

We are Nig and Nom and together with our two sons we are the driving force behind Sunny Travel Explorers.

We are currently full-time travellers and bloggers. After months of preparation, we sold everything we owned and began our new life free of 'stuff'! It was a scary first step but now we can follow our passion of travel, exploring and adventure. Our blogs will feature our adventures around the world as we continue our lifestyle.

Let’s tell you a bit about our background and how we got to where we are now so you’ll know us better.

We married in 1995 in the Dominican Republic which kick-started a lifetime of awesome travelling adventures together. As well as working in cool destinations around the world we have also travelled the world as both backpackers and on luxury vacations.

We started Scuba Diving in 1996 and from that moment every holiday was planned around either a cool place to dive or to take the next level course.

In 2001 we combined our passions of diving and travelling into reality and took the plunge by becoming Dive Centre Manager and Logistics Manager for Dive-In Cyprus a 5* PADI IDC Centre and Residential Career Development Centre.  During that time Nom became a PADI Course Director and Nig a PADI Master Instructor.

Following six years in Cyprus we used our PADI Instructor credentials to work our way around the world in awesome locations such as Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines, Mexico, USA, Eygpt, UK and the Caribbean.

Our diving adventures were truly amazing and we really were living the dream but there was always something missing! Once we decided to have a family we needed more stability and returned to live in the UK.

Since becoming a family, we have been introducing our boys to the world from a young age - they are now teenagers! When the boys were younger we lived in the United Kingdom and travelled the world as often as we could.

Our travel blog is the culmination of this desire for exploration and a thirst for sharing our experiences with the world. We believe that travel can be an incredible teacher for all ages, revealing the profound beauty of our planet and the diversity of its people. With our trusty camera in one hand and our teenagers by our side, we have set out to create a platform that inspires all travellers to embrace what the world has to offer.

In our blog, we are sharing the picturesque sunsets and breathtaking landscapes with the lessons we've learned as solo and as family travellers. We hope to showcase that travelling with teenagers is possible and also incredibly enriching.

Thank you for following our journey as we navigate the twists and turns of a life dedicated to exploring and new adventures.

Hi, I’m Nom and I'm on a quest to discover the world's hidden treasures, one destination at a time. In a daring leap of faith, I left behind a career in Law and Property Management in the UK to embark on an exciting journey of full-time travel and blogging with my husband and two adventurous teenage sons.

Born with an unquenchable wanderlust, my love for exploring the beauty of our planet has always been at the forefront of my dreams. The call of far-off lands, diverse cultures, and untamed landscapes became irresistible. My insatiable curiosity for adventure has led me to embrace a different path. During one of our family vacations the spark was re-ignited, and we realized that traveling together full-time was achievable, not just as an escape, but as an extraordinary education for our boys.

Becoming a full-time traveller and blogger is everything I have dreamed of and I am blessed to have my family with me on this exciting journey.  Whilst I love sitting by a pool, there's more to travel than relaxing and my goal is to inspire others to explore and discover.

Having worked in the travel and leisure industry, I have first-hand experience of travel planning and I will use this to bring you travel tips and advice.

I'm Nig (Nigel) and my mission is to inspire, to capture the beauty of our planet, and to share stories that encourage others to break free from material constraints. This new chapter in my life is all about embracing life's infinite possibilities, one destination at a time. My life's journey resembles a colorful patchwork quilt woven from diverse experiences across the globe. It's a tale of transformation, risk-taking, and above all, the relentless pursuit of passion.

I have now traded my career in engineering to embark on a life-altering journey with my family.  My transition from the structured world of engineering to the unpredicable realm of travel blogging is a testament to my adventurous spirit.  My engineering career previously took me into the realm of oil rigs, manufacturing in Singapore, firearms and the scuba diving world.  However, I prefer a life of freedom and exploration.  I have an insatiable curiosity and and eye for detail which will enable me to provide the best narratives with a unique flavour.

Join me on my extraordinary journeys, new and old, where exploration has no limits or boundaries.

Thank you for being a part of this adventure.
