Nestled in the heart of Phang Nga Province in Thailand, the original Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is a hidden gem that offers an awe-inspiring panorama of the the scenic Phang Nga Bay. For travellers seeking a tranquil escape and breathtaking vistas, Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is an enchanting must-visit destination. An ocean, dotted with limestone peaks and mountains, surrounded by mangrove rivers and forests as far as the eye can see. Combine that with the golden hour during sunrise, and you have yourself one of the prettiest places on Earth. That is not the sight you get to see every day!

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint has become increasingly popular with tourists in recent years due to the breath-taking sunrise and sunset views which are equally captivating. Whether you're an early bird or prefer the tranquil beauty of twilight and star gazing, this viewpoint caters to both. We are fortunate enough to have visited twice, once for sunrise and once during the afternoon.

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is set on top of a hill on private land.  There is a parking area just off the road and then you can choose to either hike up to the viewpoint or take the songthaew.  To walk up the fee is THB30 and it will take approximately 10-15 minutes.  Be aware it is very steep in places and proper footwear is recommended, no flip flops or sandals.  If you take the songthaew the fee is THB90 and it takes approximately 5 minutes, the fee includes the ride back down.  The songthaews run every 10 minutes.

Once you arrive at the viewpoint, you'll be greeted by a sweeping vista of limestone karsts, emerald-green waters, and the magnificent seascape of Phang Nga Bay. These dramatic rock formations rise majestically from the sea, creating a captivating and unforgettable sight. The panoramic view extends for miles, allowing you to truly appreciate the natural beauty of southern Thailand.

There are many art installations to help you capture awesome Instagram worthy photographs. Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is perfect for teeenagers, the ride up in the songtheaw is fun and adventurous and our two sons loved posing at each of the props. You will only need to spend an hour at Samet Nangshe unless you stop for some delicious Thai food.

We visited Samet Nangshe Viewpoint during low season in August which was a bonus as it was very quiet however, it was also rainy season.  It rained heavily towards the end of our visit but that made for more dramatic photographs!

Sun Rise: Plan to arrive 30 minutes before sunrise and be sure to account for parking and getting up to the viewpoint. It is an impressive sight to see the islands appear from the dusk. Remember low clouds and fog usually form in the morning when the temperature rises, and you would only be able to see the place engulfed in the sea of clouds in the early mornings. So be sure to get there before then.
