Railay

Railay is a small peninsula in Krabi which is home to four beaches and is only accessible by boat, giving it a tropical island feel.  Railay is one of the most visited areas in Thailand, it is most famous for the limestone karsts that rise out of the azure water and border the beaches. Railay is easily accessible for a day trip from Ao Nang however, we would recommend staying here for a night or two to fully explore all the area has to offer.

With its powdery soft white sands and crystal-clear waters, Rayleigh is an idyllic spot for sunbathing and swimming. Adventurers will also find their paradise here, as the towering limestone karsts provide an excellent backdrop for rock climbing and exploration. thailand krabi tiger cave temple
thailand krabi tiger cave temple

Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea) is a remarkable and spiritually significant Buddhist temple located in the lush jungles of Krabi. This temple is famous for its stunning natural surroundings and its challenging climb up a steep flight of 1237 stairs to a mountaintop shrine with a golden Buddha.

The temple gets its name from a nearby cave where, according to legend, a tiger once lived. Visitors can explore the cave's interior and discover a complex of intricate statues, images, and meditation chambers. However, the main attraction lies at the summit, where a breathtaking panoramic view of Krabi and its dramatic limestone karsts awaits those who conquer the steps. Aside from its natural beauty, the Tiger Cave Temple is also an active place of worship and meditation, making it a serene and spiritually enriching destination for travellers seeking a unique cultural and natural experience in Krabi.

The best time to visit Wat Tham Suea is around sunrise or sunset (If you plan to visit at sunset take a light so you can get down the mountain safely).  Try to avoid the climb around midday.

When visiting a Buddhist Temple, it's essential to dress modestly and respectfully. This means covering your shoulders, knees and midriff (no swimsuits, short skirts, strapless tops, tank tops, wide neck tops, crop tops, short pants or mini-skirts for women, and sleeveless t-shirts for men).

Opening times: 05.00-17.00 Entrance is free although donations are greatly appreciated.

You can make your own way to Tiger Cave Temple by taxi or with a rental motorbike costing approximately THB200 per day.  Otherwise you can take a Songthaew which gives you a fun experience of the local public transport. however, the Songthaew doesn’t go all the way to Tiger Cave complex, so you’ll need to walk a short distance. The prices for a Songthaew can vary, but it should be about THB150 from Ao Nang or THB50 from Krabi town one way.

The most convenient way to get to the Tiger Cave Temple for travellers staying in the Kabi area is to book the popular full-day Emerald Pool, Blue Pool, Hot Springs and Tiger Cave Temple Tour with Krabi Jungle Tour which offers the most affordable and convenient way to visit these highlights of the Krabi area. Reserve your place now and pay later with free cancellation here.

The Emerald Pool (Sa Morakot) is a natural turquoise blue pond with fresh water supplied from natural streams coming down from the hills. Located in the province of Krabi, it is one of the best excursions in the region.

In the middle of a mystical jungle, you can discover two crystal-clear lakes, the picturesque Emerald Pool and the Blue Pool. During a short hike through the forest, you have the opportunity to explore an intact ecosystem and enjoy the unique ambience of the rainforest. The Emerald Pool is the most popular of several natural springs in the area for swimming and relaxing in its cool waters. The pool's emerald color changes to turquoise during the day under the influence of changing temperature, minerals and limestone leaching from the hillside. A visit to the Emerald Pool is one of the most special things to do in Krabi and a real experience to remember forever!

The Emerald Pool opens its doors for visitors from 8:30 am and closes at 4:30 pm. The Blue Pool opens a bit later at 10:00. Entrance fee is THB200. A visit to the Emerald Pool is possible all year, but be aware that the Blue Pool is closed from May to October.

There are 2 paths leading from the entrance to the beautiful Emerald Pool Krabi. A shorter dirt road and a narrow twisty path through the forest and mangroves. This 2.7 kilometres nature trail leads you through the beautiful Thung Teao Forest which is rich in bio-diversity and therefore a perfect place to spot rare animals and plant species. So take your camera with you and keep your eyes peeled!

You’ll walk along a series of small but crystal clear pools, such as the green pool called Sra Kaew (Glass Pool). You can also spot hundreds of different species of tropical trees and plants, waterfalls and streams. Once you’ve arrived at the Emerald Pool, you can take a dip to cool off from the hike and enjoy the beautiful nature surroundings. But be careful because the rocks can get quiet slippery. There are ropes to help you get in and out, but water shoes are recommended.

If you walk about 600m further upstream from the Emerald Pool, you can see the crystal clear Blue Pool Krabi as well. But be aware, as this pool is located close to the main source of the spring, you cannot swim here as the water is way too hot and there’s quicksand.

The Emerald Pool is about 65km from Ao Nang so it’s a full day tour.  If you’re planning to visit the Emerald Pool, a great idea would be to combine it with the Krabi Hot Springs as well - see below.

If you’re experienced enough riding a motorbike on a longer distance, the best way to get there is with a rental motorbike. This gives you the freedom to go whatever time you like so you can avoid the crowds later in the morning and during midday. Alternatively you could arrange a private driver for the day with a group of friends or book a guided tour.

The most convenient way to get to the Emerald Pool and Blue Pool for travellers staying in the Krabi area is to book the popular full-day Emerald Pool, Blue Pool, Hot Springs and Tiger Cave Temple Tour with Krabi Jungle Tour which offers the most affordable and convenient way to visit these highlights of the Krabi area.  Reserve your place now and pay later with free cancellation here.

Krabi Hot Springs are a must-visit natural jacuzzi and waterfall located in the Khlong Thom District. There are quite a few thermal springs in this geothermal region, but the best one to visit is the Krabi Hot Stream located near the famous Emerald Pool and Blue Pool of the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve.

A visit to the Krabi Hot Springs makes for the perfect inland day trip for those looking for things to do on the mainland , offering a great place to swim in natural thermal waters in the middle of the jungle. The site boasts a delightful hot spring waterfall that provides a natural jacuzzi-like mineral-rich bath before it flows into a refreshing and cool river.  If you have visited the Emerald Pool you will almost pass the Hot Springs on the way back.

The Krabi Hot Spring waterfall is located in a beautiful small rainforest with streams flowing down to create a waterfall of several natural spring water pools. It’s a super relaxing feeling with the warm water which is at a pleasant 35-42C. With stunning views of the river below, a natural hot tub jacuzzi is a must!  The mineral salts of the spring water will benefit your skin and afterwards you can swim and cool off the river which is very pleasant after the hot spring!

The Krabi Hot Springs are about 65km from Ao Nang and 55 kilometres from Krabi Town located in the Khlong Thom district.  You will pass Krabi Airport and the Tiger Cave Temple on your way, so that might be a great addition for a full day exploring East Krabi.

Opening times: 08.30-18.00  Entrance for foreign tourists is THB200. Parking fee is THB20 for a motorbike and THB30 Baht for a car.

The most convenient way to get to the Hot Springs for travellers staying in the Krabi area is to book the popular full-day Emerald Pool, Blue Pool, Hot Springs and Tiger Cave Temple Tour with Krabi Jungle Tour which offers the most affordable and convenient way to visit these highlights of the Krabi area.  Reserve your place now and pay later with free cancellation here.
