Hong Island means “room island” and with its stunning natural beauty and its fairy-like charm it certainly enchants visitors.
Hong Island is best known for its impressive limestone formations and is one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand.
The highlight of Koh Hong is the panoramic viewpoint. Climb the 400+ stairs and you will be rewarded with the most spectacular 360-degree view over the incredible surrounding waters and limestone karsts of the neighbouring islands.
The limestone cliffs of Hong Island are stunning, there’s also a tranquil beach with soft white sand and a turquoise lagoon for swimming and snorkelling which is calm and shallow. Another highlight on the island is the Hong Lagoon, which is only accessible by boat through a narrow opening.
When exploring Hong Island on a day tour you will find a small nature trail with mangrove trees, wild birds, giant lizards and incredible rock formations.
Located in Thanbok Kharanee National Park, the small island of Koh Hong is a popular destination for day tours from both Krabi and Phuket. As there is no accommodation on Koh Hong you can only visit as part of a day trip.
On arrival you will exit your boat onto a small pier where the National Park entrance fee of THB400 is paid (usually included with your tour fee but best to double check). A short stroll along the beach will bring you to the soft white sandy beach where it is possible to swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water. This is a popular area for enjoying the unique natural beauty of the island.
When we visited Hong Island we made the viewpoint our first stop before it got too hot and crowded. There’s 420 stairs to get to the top, we would recommend proper footwear and some water. The stairs are quite steep in places. Once you get to the viewpoint you will be rewarded with a stunning 360-degree view over the unique seascape with amazing limestone islands.
After the viewpoint we had free time to explore the small nature trail and then relaxed on the beach until a delicious family style lunch was served at the restaurant. Drinks and snacks are available if required and there’s also toilet facilities.
The Hong Lagoon is another attraction of a Hong Island Day Tour. Your boat will pass through a narrow rock opening and into the lagoon, you will be amazed with a unique landscape of turquoise water and towering limestone cliffs. The water is calm and crystal clear, and the surrounding rocks are a breathtaking sight, you will feel as if you are immersed in another world. Depending on your tour, you may be able to swim and snorkel or kayak for an unforgettable experience.

Where To Stay To Visit Hong Island
As there is no accommodation on Koh Hong you can only visit as part of a day trip from Krabi or Phuket.
We stayed at the Seaseeker Krabi Resort in Ao Nang. Perfectly positioned close to an array of restaurants and bars with Ao Nang Beach and the famous Monkey Trail only an 800m walk away.
