Krabi: Kayaking The Mangrove Forests at Ao Thalane Bay
An Enchanting and Serene Experience
THAILAND: KRABI
Sea Kayaking through the vibrant greenery of the mangrove forests at Ao Thalane Bay was one of the most truly enchanting experiences our family has ever had.
Ao Thalane or Thalane Bay is one of the most beautiful mangrove forests in the whole of Thailand. About 20km from Krabi Town this section of coast is covered in dense foliage that wraps itself around the towering karsts.
As we explored the intricate labyrinth of narrow mangrove channels and limestone cliffs on our kayaks we encountered an ecosystem unlike anywhere else. The dense mangrove forests provide a vital habitat for various bird species and marine life, making it a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts. Whilst gliding along the calm waters we encountered kingfishers, little herons and crab-eating macaques.
This immersive sea kayaking experience took us through small inlets, caves and hidden lagoons with the shade from the jungle keeping us cool. The towering limestone karsts rising dramatically from the water added an element of mystique to the adventure. The guides were fantastic and pointed out wildlife and unusual rock formations and were happy to take photographs for us.
Krabi's coastline is an amazing sight, to actually get to paddle a kayak around it is a very memorable experience. Whether you're a novice or an experienced kayaker, Ao Thalane offers a captivating and tranquil escape, where you can connect with nature and revel in the beauty of Thailand's coastal ecosystems.
We were boarded by friendly macaques!
At the end of our trip we beached the kayaks on an exposed sand-bar in the mouth of the river and had a refreshing swim.
When we returned to the pier we were provided with fresh fruit.

Where To Stay In Krabi
We stayed at the Seaseeker Krabi Resort in Ao Nang. Perfectly positioned close to an array of restaurants and bars with Ao Nang Beach and the famous Monkey Trail only an 800m walk away. We had two interconnecting rooms with a stunning mountain view. The pool has a waterslide and there's a kids club for younger children. The breakfast buffet here was amazing.
